This is handy for bug reports, how-to steps and short product demos, without installing a screen recorder. Your browser decides what you can share and shows its own indicator while recording.

Getting a good GIF from any video
- Keep it short. GIF compresses frames far less efficiently than a video codec, so each extra second costs a lot of bytes.
- Crop the motion, not the quality. A smaller width looks sharper than a large GIF with only 16 colors.
- Use Speed. Speeding up a slow screen recording to 1.5× or 2× makes it easier to watch and halves the frames.

Which video formats can I convert to GIF?
Any video your browser can play: typically MP4 and WebM, often MOV, and others depending on the browser and the codec inside the file. If your browser can't decode a file, the tool tells you.
How do I make a GIF of my screen?
Press Record your screen, choose the screen, window or tab to share in your browser's prompt, do what you want to capture, then press Stop recording. The recording opens in the converter, ready to trim and convert.
Is the screen recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The recording is made by your browser and kept in memory on your device. It is converted there too, and nothing is sent to a server.
Why don't I see the Record your screen button?
It only appears in browsers that support screen capture and recording in a web page. Most phone browsers don't, so on a phone, record with the system screen recorder and open the video file instead.
How long can a screen recording be?
Recordings stop automatically after 60 seconds. For a GIF, a few seconds is usually best: you can trim the recording before converting.
Can I convert a MOV file to GIF?
Yes, if your browser can decode it. Browsers aren't required to support the MOV container, so it depends on your browser and the codec inside. If it doesn't open, re-export the clip as MP4 (H.264).
